DESCRIPTION

Join Dr. Bacon for an insightful exploration of dream interpretation using "A Christmas Carol" by Dickens as a framework. In addition to learning the steps for dream interpretation, we will explore the symbolic meaning of characters like the three spirits, Tiny Tim, and Jacob Marley. We will also review how the story's imagery and themes relate to the process of individualization and psychological growth.  An experiential component, supported by helpful handouts, will enhance learning and application.

This course is intended for mental health professional who are new to the topic. Course meets the qualifications for 1 hour of continuing education credit for LMFT's, LCSWs, LPCCs and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. CE completion certificates will be awarded when participants complete the course at the end of the speaker presentation. Only the hour of the speaker's presentation is included in the CE credit.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER

Melody Bacon, PhD is a professor in the MFT program at The Chicago School.  She is a clinical psychologist who has taught in graduate education for over 25 years.  In addition, to a private practice, she has worked in psychiatric and substance abuse treatment facilities where she not only assisted individuals in beginning the process of recovery, but also worked with the families to support that process.  She is the author of "Family Therapy in the Treatment of Substance Use Disorders: The Family Matters Program". (2019) Routledge Publications. Her dissertation," I Thought Love Would Last Forever," examined the transformational potential of grief and divorce and initiated an interest that continues to this day. She is the author of The Grace Filled Divorce (2012).  Dr. Bacon has presented at numerous conferences and workshops most recently for the Continuing Education program at The Chicago School.

SYLLABUS

  1.  Overview of Jungian Theory (10 minutes)
  2.  Principles of Dream Interpretation (20 minutes)
  3.  Techniques of Dream Interpretation (20 minutes)
  4.  Application and Examples (10 minutes)

EDUCATIONAL GOALS

In this workshops attendees will be introduced to the ideas of C.G. Jung as they pertain to interpretation of dreams; attendees will learn techniques and application which can be used in personal and clinical work to assist clients in learning more about themselves and gain greater insights into the psychological forces that influence their lives.

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    In successfully completing and attending this presentation, participants will be able to:

    1. Identify 2 of the major principles of Analytic Psychology. 
    2. List the 3  steps of Jungian Dream Interpretation. 
    3. Apply these steps of Dream Interpretation in clinical practice.

    Parking: Designated parking for The Chicago School is located on the top level of the parking structure located immediately behind the Stadium Tower building (go around the right side of the building). Please pull a ticket at the parking gate and proceed to the top floor of the parking structure. Parking is free with validation, or $15 without. Please do not park in the surface level visitor or restaurant lots.

    On site: Please look for OC-CAMFT board members that will guide you to the elevator and correct classroom. You will be unable to gain access to the correct floor without assistance. If you are running late, please check in with the security desk.

    Cancellations are made by leaving a message at 714-556-7129 no later than two (2) days prior to the event by 12 PM. A refund less $5.00 processing fee will be returned to you. There are no refunds for cancellations made past this time. Need to update the phone number.

    If you registered to attend in-person but can no longer attend, you may attend virtually or view the recording but no refund will be given past 12pm two (2) days prior to event.
