Description:
Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy (IBCT) is an empirically supported treatment for relationship distress. It integrates the twin goals of acceptance and change as positive outcomes for couples in therapy. IBCT has been adopted by the Veterans Administration Healthcare System nationally and has been shown to be efficacious in numerous clinical trials. The techniques used in IBCT are easily digested, and applied, by clients in their daily interactions. Dr. McCarthy will explain each of the components of IBCT, including how to complete the "DEEP formulation". She will also provide real world examples of how to use each intervention. Dr. McCarthy will recommend books and websites for audience members who would like a deeper delve into IBCT.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to name three rule outs for couples therapy and how to address these with potential clients.
- Participants will be able to name the two of the four components of the DEEP formulation.
- Participants will be able to describe the two key features of unified detachment.
