Webinar Description:
Therapists often struggle with knowing how to manage couples therapy when one partner is concerned about the other's substance use or possible problem with compulsive behavior. Is couples therapy contraindicated? Should the therapist ignore the substance concerns and focus on other relationship issues? Should the therapist automatically refer to someone else? The answer to all the above questions is "no", therapists just need a blueprint.

After the webinar, participants will be able to
1. Apply three evaluation tools for identifying problematic or addictive use.
2. Describe the continuum of use model of assessment
3. Apply and integrate a preliminary assessment into the couple therapy
4. Create a plan of action based on the preliminary assessment

Presenter Bio:
Dr. Navarra, LMFT, MAC is a Certified Gottman Therapist and Master Trainer. He has co-authored three textbook chapters with Drs. John and Julie Gottman. Additional publication credits include four articles for the Encyclopedia of Couple and Family Therapy: Systemic Approaches in Addiction Treatment, and co-authored three articles with Dr. John Gottman on Gottman Marital Therapy. Dr. Navarra designed Couple Addiction Recovery Training for Therapists, and Roadmap for the Journey for Recovering Couples in collaboration with the Gottmans and the Gottman Institute.
