Course Description
:

Research shows that the therapist-client relationship creates the greatest impact for change in therapy. Research also indicates that therapist's having knowledge of their own self-of-the therapist issues and what they bring to the table allows them to be cognizant of the dynamic factors of interaction in the therapist-client relationship. Clients report that when there is a lack of being understood or heard in treatment, this often results in poor attendance or drop out from therapy. This presentation will assist attendees in discovering their own social location and explore how those identities impact their work in the the therapy room. Attendees will also explore ways that they can be intentional in building the therapist-client relationship through the lens of cultural humility.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Explore the concept of social location and how these factors impact the client-therapist relationship.
  2. Explore the concept of intersectionality and how this impacts the lives of clients on a day to day basis.
  3. Explore the concept of cultural humility and how to implement this lens into the process of therapy.
