Course Description
:
A presention providing information about brain injury, and how to bring a greater awareness of brain injury to the community, as well as a general understanding of working with people who have had a brain injury and their family.

Learning Objectives

  • A more in-depth awareness and knowledge of brain injury, the demographics, and causes of brain injury in the United States.
  • An understanding of brain injury classification and severity, and the neuropsychological effects of injury.
  • A better understanding to the cognitive, social, and emotional impacts of brain injury on the individual.
  • An understanding of the specific needs of persons who have had a brain injury for better community reintegration.
  • An understanding of how help families and family caregivers caring for their brain injured loved one.

  • Course meets the qualifications for 1 hour of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
  • Orange County Chapter of CAMFT is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (Provider #59405) to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and LEPs.  Orange County Chapter of CAMFT maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Camilla Seippel is is a certified as a brain injury specialist (CBIS) by the Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists established in 1996 by the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA). Her clinical and research interests include neurocognition in brain injury and schizophrenia.  She currently works with outpatient brain injury survivors, as well as wounded warriors who have had a brain injury during their service.  Camilla is currently a PsyD student attending the Clinical Psychology Doctoral program at Antioch University Santa Barbara. She received by undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Biology from the University of Tampa, Florida in 1997 and my Masters in Psychology from Antioch University Santa Barbara in 2010

She completed her doctoral internship with the County of Orange Neurobehavioral Testing Unit (NBTU) and is currently completing her doctoral dissertation, a quantitative analysis toward understanding thought and cognition in Schizophrenia. She is also currently involved in program development and outcome research with outpatient brain injury rehabilitation patients.

Camilla serves on the Orange County Psychological Association (OCPA) board as the Graduate Student Representative, and a member of the Social Planning Committee. She also serves as a Student Key Contact to help advocate for psychology at a congressional level.
