Course Description
:

Clients come to us because they want something to change yet they resist the change they seek. This presentation gives the clinician 1) frameworks and theories, 2) treatment tools such as useful metaphors and 3) treatment techniques that help clients overcome their own resistance and experience the change the want. This will be done via didactic as well as interactive processes.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Apply theoretical lenses and frameworks to get to the core issues where change needs to happen.
  2. Utilize at least three metaphors that reduce client resistance and increase desire to change.
  3. Develop ways to increase the motivation to make positive change while decreasing motivation to keep things the same.
  4. Design powerful questions to help client align with his or her most courageous and proactive “parts” rather than the fearful and self-protected “parts.
