  TAKE THE CLIMATE SURVEY

The March/April 2023 issue of the CAMFT magazine, The Therapist, posted a “Letter to the Editor” addressing a previous article on Gender-Affirming Care.

The OC CAMFT DEI Committee would like to state clearly that we hear and understand the criticism from the community. We firmly believe that Gender-Affirming Care is the most competent and ethical way to serve non-cis clients and the best ways to support trans and non-binary youth in living their fullest most congruent lives! These views are consistent with official statements of support released by every major medical and mental health organization in the United States, including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Psychological Association. A full list of organizations can be found here.

We are in continued conversations with CAMFT and our local chapter around this issue. If you would like to contact CAMFT directly to address concerns about the letter, you may send emails to infocenter@camft.org

Please, stay tuned for further education and offerings from the OC CAMFT Diversity Committee regarding this issue.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION STATEMENT

The Orange County Chapter of CAMFT’s Diversity Committee is dedicated to supporting its members and creating an inclusive environment that incorporates diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Our goal is to create a sense of belonging within the OC CAMFT community that fosters respect, cultural humility, safety, and growth. We value and honor individuals across all intersectional identities including but not limited to race, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, pregnancy, childbirth, familial status, marital/relationship status, class, age, national origin, ancestry, language, citizenship status, disability, military or veteran status, neurodivergence, and education.

We commit ourselves to the engagement of authentic conversations that uplift marginalized communities. We are social justice advocates and agents of change.

Mistakes happen, if we stumbled and didn’t uphold this commitment to you, please let us know. OC CAMFT’s Diversity Committee values the opportunity to learn and grow! This includes listening when our community calls us into a discussion of how we can do better. We appreciate you sharing your experience with us!
