Trauma: The Silent Partner in Addiction

This presentation will explore the relationship between addiction and trauma. Symptoms associated with trauma will be outlined as well as a treatment approach. The presentation will explain how addicts who have repetitive and chronic relapses often have an under diagnosed history of trauma. The primary role of the therapist will be identified.

Learning Objectives

1. Participants will be able to define trauma.
2. Participants will be able to identify 3 symptoms of underlying trauma.
3. Participants will be able to determine 3 techniques that can be used with a client with underlying trauma.

Gina H. Tabrizy is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with 30 years of experience. Currently she is the Clinical Director, cofounder, and owner of Harmony Heals Holistic Counseling Center and Harmony Heals Detox. She has appeared on television programs, several talk radio and internet programs, and hundreds of lectures at agencies and universities. She holds multiple certifications and specialties, and is an adjunct professor at Cal State Long Beach.
